Rain destroys electricity poles in ogunstate

Many electricity poles were destroyed in a downpour in the early hours of Tuesday in Ire-Akari, Iloye Ota, Ogun State.
The News Agency of Nigeria reported that the downpour, which started around 2am, was accompanied by rainstorm.
Residents in the community woke up to discover the damage caused by the rain whichuprooted more than six electricity poles and disrupted traffic in the area.
Vice-Chairman, Ire-Akari Estate Community Development Association, Iloye Ota, Mr. Olu Fashina, said the damage was enormous.
Fashina said the damaged poles and a transformer serving the area were bought by members of the community.
He said, "When we woke up this morning, many electricity poles had been destroyed and cables were blocking everywhere; residents could not go out early as usual
"Before the incident, we did not have adequate electricity supply and now it will be worse,'' he said.
Mrs Alimat Tiamiyu, a tenant in the area
we want the PHCN to respond quickly as the damage was too much for the community to handle alone.
